MATTHEW 10: 26-33 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION (June 21, 2020)

There is nothing covered that will not be uncovered. There is nothing hidden that will not be made known. What I am telling you in the dark, you must speak in the light. What you hear in private, proclaim from the house tops. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but have no power to kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of Him who can destroy both body and the soul in hell. For a few cents you can buy two sparrows. Yet not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father knowing. As for you, every hair of your head has been counted. Do not be afraid: you are worth more than many sparrows!

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my Father in heaven. Whoever rejects me before others, I will reject before my Father in heaven.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

When Jesus immerse into the world and enjoin the activities of man, He open up himself to his disciples and to his followers. His life gradually turns into an open book as the Father in heaven had allowed it to ordinary man like us.
In similar way, the Bible reading of today teaches us to completely open ourselves to the Lord because our God is a known God.

When He said “What I am telling you in the dark, you must speak in the light.” Jesus is simply telling us to recall moments of our darkness and got to share how the Lord helps us  overcome those trying times. This is the very reason why we are encourage to share our own experiences with the Lord neither in the private nor in the group of few but if possible have it done in the “house tops” according to this reading. Do not keep what is happening in secret but be bold to share the goodness of the Lord to those who really needs it.

Often times, when given a chance to share how God works in their ups and downs would normally think it twice and more often say no than yes. Why? Because they don’t have the guts or in fear of doing the whole thing, thinking it would lead them to become a laughing stock. But Jesus reminded us in return that our Father does not even allow a sparrow to fall into the ground without him knowing it. He even added that not a single hair of our head is not accounted. Meaning, every details of our lives is under His close management and there is no enough reason  to be afraid of in this life.

In the final note of this reading, Jesus said ” Whoever acknowledge me before others, I will do the same before my Father and those who reject me, will be rejected before my Father in heaven.” Jesus encourages us to witness him before men of this world for when judgement comes He will also stand as our witness in front of the Father in heaven. All we need is to pour out all our trust to him and all things happen according to His will here on earth as it is in heaven.
