MATTHEW 8: 5-17 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION (JUNE 27, 2020)

When Jesus entered into the Capernaum, an army captain approached him, ask his help, “Sir my servant lies sick at home. He is paralyzed and suffers terribly.”Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” The captain answered, “I am not worthy to have you under my roof, just give an order and my boy will be healed. For I myself, a junior officer, give orders to my soldiers. And if I say to one, ‘Go!’ he goes; and if I say to another, ‘Come!’  He comes; and if I say to my servant, ‘Do this!’ he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was astonished; and said to those who were following him, “I tell you, I have not found such faith in Israel. I say to you, many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob at the feast in the kingdom of heaven; but the heirs of the kingdom  will be thrown out into extreme darkness; there, they will wail and grind their teeth.” Then Jesus said to the captain, “Go home now. As you believed, so let it be.” And at that moment, his servant was healed. Jesus went to Peter’s house and found Peter’s mother-in-law in bed with fever. He took her by the hand and the fever left her’ she got and began to wait on him. Toward evening, the brought to Jesus many people possessed by evil spirits; and with a word, he drove out the spirits. He also healed all who were sick, In this way, what was said by the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled: He bore our infirmities and took on himself our diseases.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

The encounter of the captain and Jesus was a wonderful encounter of faith culminated with a genuine trust unto him. When the centurion said “my servant lies sick at home paralyzed and suffer terribly” is the same us our lives most especially in this trying time. We need a captain who can facilitate a wonderful encounter of faith to fetch us out of this difficult situation. But wait, who do you think are these captain representative of us now?

Brothers and sisters upon birth, we can be either a servant (boy) or a captain. If by assessment failed to be a servant, then be a captain. Knowledge of our Christian duties and responsibilities is important to be able to align our actions to the will of the Father.

To be a servant is not easy for a servant is the subject of pain and sufferings however, there is no need to worry about because a captain will come to facilitate the greatest encounter of faith unto Jesus. The very least the servant would do is to offer the whole of his life to Jesus for healing. Being the captain, should continue to facilitate meaningful encounter by proclaiming the gospel of the Lord unto the sick majority.

Learning Continuity Plan

Running an institution in this new normal situation is not easy. Learning communities serve as the change venues of life to effectively adjust to the new demand emerging from the current situation. Education is  change for the better. The new situation that we have now is not getting any better day after day instead stuck in fear locking down institution and homes for safety.  But for how long we could sustain if we will not do something out of this situation? No matter what, life must go on by just  playing an excellent scape of this difficult situation day after day.

As educator, we work for change. A change process that will augment the present status of life into something better. Yes! forcing a dramatic change is not possible at this time but a carefully planned transformational change would matter in a couple of months? or years perhaps? Depending on various adaptations so desired in this new survival set up.

Hence, the Department of Education in her efforts to serve the Filipinos, device the so called Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan to ensure uninterrupted services to our valued client in a safe and secure way  through careful planning   base on research findings and recommendations using the available resources and technology of our learners.  It is our hope and prayers that school stakeholders, internal and external, will  join hands  together  to support  the school Learning Continuity Plan (LCP) to be implemented this coming August 24, 2020.

Presented here is the Learning Continuity Plan  (LCP) of  Mulao National High School for School Year 2020-2021.

PEACE

“GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.”      Desiderata (By Max Ehrmann © 1927)

For today’s topic let us talk about PEACE anchored on the first three stanzas of the poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann.

Peace has been defined by the Merriam- Webster Dictionary as a state of tranquility or quiet, freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions, harmony in personal relations and even used interjectionally to ask for silence or calm or as a greeting of farewell. In this topic, let us define peace in the context of the Max Erhmann’s Desiderata.

Peace is Silence. Peace is the absence of noise. It is the absence of chaos. It is the stillness of things. Nowadays, this kind of peace is something that is difficult to find. We have been constantly bombarded by noise – from the people around us, to the things that we have with us and even the beating of own our heart. Everything around us is noise. They are disturbing us that we are starting to forget the beauty of silence – the beauty of a minute of peace.   And most importantly we forget to listen. It is only in silence that we can hear and listen to what the world is telling us, to what our own heart is telling us and to what the Lord Almighty telling us. It is only in silence that we can achieve the real essence of peace.

Have you listened to the silence? Have you achieved peace?

Here are my five ways to achieve silence and achieve peace:

  1. Be in good terms with yourself.

Accept that you are not perfect. You have flaws and imperfections. You can have mistakes. You have limitations. By accepting this, you can avoid being harsh to yourself. You can accept what you have and what you can’t have. Just simply love yourself a little bit coz nobody else can except you.

  1. Be in good terms with people.

Being in good terms with everybody is as much as possible to treat everyone well. Avoid hurting people. Be courteous. Don’t raise your voice. Control yourself especially your anger. Don’t speak hurting words. Don’t take revenge. Be kind.

  1. Be in good terms with your things.

You have been working hard to have the things that you have now and yet you have seen that a new version is out in the market and yours become old. You want to have the latest fashion, the latest version. These things are stressing you to work more. Why not take good care of the things you have now so that its utility will be maximized.

  1. Be in good terms of your past.

You might not have the most wonderful past. You might have been hurt and broken. You might not have achieved all your plans but then look at you now. You are a product of your past and yet you are given the chance to become better than you in the past. You are in your tracks toward a better version of yourself. So say thank you to the past. Don’t live there. Move on.

  1. Be in good terms with the Lord.

We have the most loving and forgiving God. He knows everything about us. There is  nothing to hide, nothing to own as our own. We are created by God. Everything about us is already written by Him. So no matter what you are now He is just a prayer away. Go back to Him. He has the most unconditional love.

MATTHEW 8: 1-4 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION (JUNE 26, 2020)

When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowd followed Him. Then a leper came forward. He knelt before Him and said, ” Sir, if you want to, you can make me clean.” Jesus stretch out His hand, touched him and said, ” I want to, be clean again.” At that very moment, the man was cleansed from his leprosy. Then Jesus said to Him, ” See that you do not tell anyone, but go to a priest, have yourself declared clean, and offer the gift that Moses commanded as evidence for them.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

When the leper said, ” Sir if you want to, you can make me clean.” this was a declaration of a fully trusting heart. It is also an expression of genuine faith unto Jesus. This is also the same trust and faith that move Jesus wanting to clean the leper. It is in the same that led Him to stretch His hands into an act of cleansing the leper. Brothèrs and sisters, our trust and faith would truly touch God’s compassion. His wants and responses of answering our needs and perhaps some of our wants, not inimical to us in search for His kingdom, could be touched by the quality of our faith.

When Jesus said ” go to the priest and have yourself declared clean and do some offerings as Moses had commanded,” encourages us to do our witnessing not in private but in christian assemblies and offer gifts of thanks giving by helping those who are in dire needs just around the community.

Yes! Brothers and sisters faith can move mountain but only when it is truly alive in the display of one’s work.
