Gospel, Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

Gospel, Luke 15:1-3, 11-32

1 The tax collectors and sinners, however, were all crowding round to listen to him,

2 and the Pharisees and scribes complained saying, ‘This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.’

3 So he told them this parable:

11 Then he said, ‘There was a man who had two sons.

12 The younger one said to his father, “Father, let me have the share of the estate that will come to me.” So the father divided the property between them.

13 A few days later, the younger son got together everything he had and left for a distant country where he squandered his money on a life of debauchery.

14 ‘When he had spent it all, that country experienced a severe famine, and now he began to feel the pinch;

15 so he hired himself out to one of the local inhabitants who put him on his farm to feed the pigs.

16 And he would willingly have filled himself with the husks the pigs were eating but no one would let him have them.

17 Then he came to his senses and said, “How many of my father’s hired men have all the food they want and more, and here am I dying of hunger!

18 I will leave this place and go to my father and say: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;

19 I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired men.”

20 So he left the place and went back to his father. ‘While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity. He ran to the boy, clasped him in his arms and kissed him.

21 Then his son said, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer deserve to be called your son.”

22 But the father said to his servants, “Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

23 Bring the calf we have been fattening, and kill it; we will celebrate by having a feast,

24 because this son of mine was dead and has come back to life; he was lost and is found.” And they began to celebrate.

25 ‘Now the elder son was out in the fields, and on his way back, as he drew near the house, he could hear music and dancing.

26 Calling one of the servants he asked what it was all about.

27 The servant told him, “Your brother has come, and your father has killed the calf we had been fattening because he has got him back safe and sound.”

28 He was angry then and refused to go in, and his father came out and began to urge him to come in;

29 but he retorted to his father, “All these years I have slaved for you and never once disobeyed any orders of yours, yet you never offered me so much as a kid for me to celebrate with my friends.

30 But, for this son of yours, when he comes back after swallowing up your property — he and his loose women — you kill the calf we had been fattening.”

31 ‘The father said, “My son, you are with me always and all I have is yours.

32 But it was only right we should celebrate and rejoice, because your brother here was dead and has come to life; he was lost and is found.”

Reflection:

The gospel reading illustrates a perfect role play of life for all to reflect and take action in search for the kingdom of God. We are urged to examine and reflect our  life’s practices as to the three characters of this gospel reading, the younger brother, the older brother and the father.

The maturity of our religious life could be easily judged  like the younger brother, who asked for his share of the father’s estate and inheritance to live a life he wishes away from his father. A kind of life inclined to the worldly desires of pleasure, personal comfort and lavishness of material things. A life could be judged like an older brother, who stays with the father, enslaves himself with hard work and possesses  unhappy disposition of  the heart thinking for long the father did not celebrate with him together with his friend even with a kid. A kind of life who harbor a heavy heart   who was expecting so much in return from his father yet seems of no avail. And lastly, life could be judged like the father, who gave no value to the great insult from his younger son asking the share of his inheritance while he is still alive. Isn’t it some kind of great insult as if the father was cursed into early death? The father surely advances this thinking but shows no reaction instead granting the younger brother’s request. He was greatly saddened at a distance watching his son turn back away from him who has shown unconditional love.

While the younger brother enjoys and squanders all his share of inheritance, his life turns upside down and becomes destitute. It was then that he looked back with a remorseful  life he left with his father and older brother and thought how much better off he would be if he returned to them and be reconciled. Surely, this same experience and feeling of remorse will lead  us to think twice in this Lenten season to do something in remorse and repent for our sins to achieve reconciliation to the Father in heaven whom we  have sinned for many times like the younger brother or to the least like an older brother who served in obedience for a reward and worldly appreciation in the crowd of his friends.

Brothers and sisters in Christ we are no different from the two sons of the father in this life changing story. The father character is like God. He is merciful, and his love knows no end. He shows to both his sons that his love is enduring and  steadfast  in them even in the varying circumstances of life.

Our God is a God of love that knows no end for all of us regardless of how sinful we are so long as we reconcile back to him in repentance, forgiveness and  and reparation.

Gospel Reading according to Luke 9:28B-36

Gospel Reading  according to Luke 9:28B-36

28B Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray.

29 While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white.

30 And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah,

31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.

32 Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

33 As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying.

34 While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud.

35 Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.”

36 After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

The gospel reading in Luke 9:28B-36 reminded us of the unreputable reality that we are all children of God like the human counterpart of Jesus. Jesus in this reading modeled the way as we journey our faith unto the Father.

Jesus went up the mountain with Peter, John and James to pray.  He provided them with opportunities to experience, understand, and visualize the big picture of life in God through prayer. It is with prayer that the glory of Jesus appeared in the visual of transfiguration, the change of Jesus’ face appearance with his cloth in dazzling white light. Jesus was then told about the exodus he needed to accomplish in Jerusalem.

My dear brothers and sisters, transfiguration of Jesus in the gospel speaks to us about change. We are all called to transform our lives and be ready to take a grand exit of who we are now all for the glory of God. But wait, there is no easy way towards life’s transformation. We need the grace of God through the rigor of personal to community prayers. We need to pay no attention to our fears, surprises, and other mixed emotions unlike the three disciples, instead trust unto the love of God with hope nested in his holiness.

When the road of changing life experiences seems dark and cloudy, do not forget to pause a little while and listen to the voice above the cloud saying “. This is my chosen son, listen to him”. Yes! brothers and sisters, in the occasion of life’s uncertainties, fears and difficult challenges, our sure recourse is the loving presence of the Father up high.

As we continue to reflect the gospel in Luke 9:28B-36, let us recall to mind those life changing situations of our lives and evaluate  its impact as we journey our faith in this Lenten season. Is it shaping us into a meaningful life transformation? Are the situations providing experiences truly facilitating to change life in Jesus alone?

Our personal preparation for this Lenten season includes repentance, resistance from temptation, prayer, bravery over the exodus of change, fight back personal fears and doubts and rest solely unto the love of God. Let us trust the Lord our God for His plan is better than ours for we are all his chosen people.

Prayer

Loving Father, you are great and merciful to us, your people. You never failed to constantly reach us. Every day you provided us with all our needs not minding our imperfections. As we are touched by your grace for this lenten season, we are lifting to you our concerns of life transformation as Jesus had modeled us in this gospel reading. Help us overcome our fears and self-doubts for possible life transformation for us to be prepared in the hour of your great mercy on earth. Amen…

Gospel Reading (Luke 4:1-13)

Gospel – Luke 4:1-13

1 Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert 2 for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days and when they were over he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered him, “It is written, One does not live on bread alone.”5 Then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant. 6 The devil said to him, “I shall give to you all this power and glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish. 7 All this will be yours, if you worship me.” 8 Jesus said to him in reply, “It is written: You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.” 9 Then he led him to Jerusalem, made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10 for it is written: He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you, 11 and: With their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” 12 Jesus said to him in reply, “It also says, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.” 13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.

Points of Reflection:

Observance of the Lenten Season is here and now. Good Friday is the day of Divine mercy for the redemption of all sinners. Now is the right time for us to repent and be prepared on the day by avoiding the tendencies of committing sin. The gospel (Luke 4:1-13) taught us how to respond to the different ways by which man could be tempted. According to this gospel reading, man-like Jesus- could be tempted in three different ways, first is the temptation of biological pleasure where the devil in Luke 4:3, urged Jesus  to turn stone into bread to satisfy his hunger. Jesus answered, “It is written, One does not live on bread alone”.  This implies that man’s satisfaction does not depend solely on the physical being but includes as well our spiritual needs which God alone could satisfy. Second is the temptation of power and worldly positions where the devil offered Jesus the splendor of the world trading Divine authority unto him. But Jesus replied “It is written: You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve”. This response verse simply told us to know the hierarchy of  personal priorities that is putting  God first above all others. It is man’s duty and obligation to worship God with all his might. The third is the temptation of spiritual power where the devil challenged Jesus to throw himself down unto the rocks below  the parapet of the temple just to prove that Jesus is the son of the living and powerful God. Jesus simply replied not to put God into the test. For us humans, we do not need to give due regards to the tough times of life which somehow lead to questioning God’s ways and presence in us. We need to acknowledge the fact  that God is preparing the best for all of us in His chosen time.

Prayer

Father God we praise and glorify your mighty and holy name. We thank you for all your Divine goodness keeping us in this life even in the toughest moment. Father God as we continue to live this gift of life, we ask your guidance and discernment of this life to fully understand its meaning and purpose. This we ask  in your holy name amen.

MARK 1: 14-20 Gospel Reading – The Call To Conversion

Gospel Reading: Mark 1: 14-20

After John was arrested, Jesus went into the Galilee and began preaching the good news of God. He said, “ The time has come; the kingdom of God is at hand. Change your ways and believe the good news. As Jesus was walking along the shore of the lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will  make you fish people.” At once, they abandoned their nets and followed him. Jesus went a little farther and saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee; they were in their boat mending their nets. Immediately Jesus called them and they followed him, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with their hired men.

POINT OF REFLECTION

A. The Call to Conversion

Jesus started his ministry with the twelve disciples. The twelve was the first batch to respond to the call of conversion at the beginning of Jesus ministry. They are considered as the chosen few from which Jesus spent precious time to train them for a very important mission of overcoming the world from the bondage of sins.

In the account of this bible reading , the process of recruitment is not complicated and does not require long list of qualification standard for Jesus had simply called them to follow for he would make them fisher of men. None of them from the human perspective qualifies being a worthy disciples of Jesus. We might even ask, what makes them qualified in the eyes of God? This is really a tough question which requires enough time of research and reflection to come up with a logical and valid answer. But tell you the answer to this question is not about how the disciples qualifies themselves in the eyes of God but it is about the work of God in itself that qualifies them to become  worthy disciple of Jesus.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, how many times you had been called but failed to respond in doubt of yourself? How many times you had told yourself that “no, not this time because you are not ready and qualified.” And now that you know that it is not our qualification that matter but rather how God qualifies us, what would you like to say unto the Lord your God?

Like the disciples’ response in this bible reading, let it be a joy to respond God’s calling for conversion immediate as the disciples had done during their time. Be Jesus disciple in this time and proclaim the gospel of God to further the cause of salvation. Amen.

GOD’S LOVE IS OVER AND ABOVE LAWS AND TRADITION

GOSPEL READING (Mark 3 :1-6)

Again Jesus entered the synagogue. A man, who had a paralyzed hand was there and some people watch Jesus: would heal the man on the Sabbath? If he did, they could accuse him.
Jesus said the man with the paralyzed hand, “ Stand here in the center.” He asked them, “ What does the law allow us to do on the Sabbath? To do good or to do harm? To save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

Then Jesus looked around at them with anger and deep sadness, because they had close their minds. And He said to the man “ Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was healed. As soon as the Pharisees left, they met with Herod’s supporters, looking for a way to destroy Jesus.

The Gospel of the Lord.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

a. Revelation of Jesus as true man and true God

The authority that JESUS was showing on the Sabbath day is a clear manifestation of His godliness. Only God has the full authority on Sabbath day. Sabbath is made for man, and not man being made for Sabbath. It is therefore a privilege for man to take some rest and worship God.

b. Love is over and above laws and tradition

God in essence is love. There is no way for any laws and tradition given to us by law experts to be first in the service of humanity. The act of Jesus healing the paralyzed man on Sabbath day implies that God’s love is above laws and tradition known to us  from our forefathers. God provides our needs all the time. He will answer our wants in his chosen time. God has appointed a time for all our request to be granted. All we need is hope in constant prayer of faith and devotion.

c. The way of the heart

The series of questions Jesus is asking in the Gospel reading, has tried their hearts and so with our hearts here and now whether God is always doing the right thing for us as his chosen people. How many times we almost question God about the things that had happen which from our judgment should not be happening. Brothers and sisters in Christ, we need to trust God for He will not be doing anything in our disadvantage. His ways about preparation is perfect for the coming days of our lives. Search your heart about this things base on the accounts of previous experiences. If an answer to this question, “Is your days before better than your days now?” is not, then that shows how God works in preparation for our lives in the coming days.

In conclusion brothers and sisters, through the revelation of Sabbath in this gospel reading, Jesus is a true God and true man in his real presence with the people. God’s love is more than anything else in fact God is love in itself. The laws and tradition given for us to follow by law experts is not over and above God’s love in the true service of humanity. While man’s hearts seems doubting about the godliness of Christ, reflect his works of mercy and compassion and change the ways of your hearts in Jesus alone as our savior. LUKE 5: 1-11 ” THE BIGGEST CATCH”

LUKE 5: 1-11 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION (September 3, 2020)

One day, as Jesus stood by the lake of Gennesaret, with a crowd gathered around him listening to the word of God, he caught sight of two boats, left at the water’s edge by fishermen, now washing their nets. He got into the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to pull out a little from the shore. There he sat, and continued to teach the crowd. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”

Simon replied, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing. But if you say so, I will lower the nets.”

This they did and caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. They signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They came, and they filled both boats almost to the point of sinking.

Upon seeing this, Simon Peter fell at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Leave me, Lord, for I am sinful man!” For he and his companions were amazed at the catch they had made, and so were Simon’s partners, James and John, Zebedee’s sons.

Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. You will catch people from now on.” So they brought their boats to land and followed him, leaving everything.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

How do you think Jesus qualifies his twelve disciples? From this Bible reading, his disciples were hardworking. Why? Because they were fishing even without a catch for the whole night long. Second, He chooses his disciples because they were patient and with strong determination. Imagine, they kept on fishing without a catch for the whole night long. Third, Jesus chooses them for they have a positive mindset never affected with accounts of human failures. Fourth, they were passionately committed unto Jesus so that when Jesus told them to lower down their nets, they lower down their nets without any mental reservations as to their whole night fishing experience. Fifth, Jesus chooses them for they were morally pure in person evident when Simon said “Leave me, Lord, for I am sinful man!”

In the disciples’ perspective, they are just ordinary fishermen who wanted to have “the biggest catch” of their lives. Yes! What a failure for them as fishermen without a catch for the whole night but the situation does not dictate them  not to be hopeful until daybreak leaving without a catch until Jesus told them to lower down their nets once more for a catch compensating the whole night effort of fishing.

The “Biggest Catch” brothers and sisters were Jesus Christ when he said to them “Do not be afraid. You will catch people from now on.” Their hearts rejoiced and   brought their boats on land and from that time on they followed Jesus as  fishers of men.

Brother and sisters in Christ, What do you think is your “biggest catch” as  member of a Christian community?

In totality brethren, the disciples were considered as the “big catch” for Jesus. And in turn Jesus was the “biggest catch” among his disciples so that they give-up everything in them and follow Jesus not as fishermen but as fisher’s of men.

LUKE 4:38-44 “Suffering is a Charm Before the Eyes of God”

LUKE 4:38-44 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION (September 2, 2020)

Leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to the house of Simon. His mother in law was suffering from high fever, and they asked him to do something for her. Bending over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately, she got up and waited on them.

At sunset, people suffering from many kinds of sickness were brought to Jesus. Laying his hand on each one, he healed them. Demons were driven out, howling as they departed from their victims, “You are the Son of God!” He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, for they knew he was the Messiah.

Jesus left at daybreak and looked for a solitary place. People went out in search of him, and finding him, they tried to dissuade him from leaving. But he said, “I have to go to the other towns, to announce the good news of the of the kingdom of God. That is what I was sent to do.” And Jesus continued to preach in the synagogues of Galilee.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

Life can never be complete without sufferings. In the same, no one can unpack the mysteries of joy without equal strength of sacrifices.

Suffering is a magic word unleashing the power of Jesus to do something over us, the believers. Likewise it is a valid reason for us to tell Jesus to do something for us as his disciples asked him to do something for the Mother in law of Simon who had fever in this Bible reading.

As the healed Mother in law of Simon  got up and waited them, is simply telling us to be consistent with Jesus and allow him to go further instead of dissuading him to stay in the service of others. Allow yourself to be used by God as a miracle worker.

You may not have the power of Jesus but surely you can encourage others to have strong faith unto Jesus for they have seen how good and merciful  is the Father upon your shortcomings.

Life unto Jesus is not about the happy ending but all about the promise of a new beginning with the Father who is in heaven.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, human suffering is a charm before the eyes of God. Because of his love for us, He could not endure looking at us alone in our struggle. The Lord would never leave us most especially during the height our sufferings.

LUKE 4: 31-37 “IF GOD IS WITH US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US”

LUKE 4: 31-37 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION

Jesus went down the Capernaum, a town of Galilee, and began teaching the people at the Sabbaths meetings. They were astonished at the way the taught them, for his word was spoken with authority.

In the synagogue, there was a man possessed by an evil spirit, who shouted in a loud voice, “ What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come  to destroy us?  I recognize you:   you are  the Holy one of God.”

The Jesus said to them sharply, “ Be silent and leave this man!”  The evil spirit them throw the man down  in front of  them,  and came out of him without doing any harm.

Amazement seized all these  people,  and they said to one another, “ What does this mean?”  He commands the evil spirits with authority and power.  He orders, and you see how they come out!”  And news about  Jesus spread throughout the surrounding area.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

Since the beginning  of Biblical creation, God has never leave man alone yesterday, today and never would be tomorrow. God appeared in many ways  through representations of the anointed one.

Throughout  the ages, Jesus does not come as a representation but as the Son of the Father who have all the powers and authorities of the father above earth. Jesus is God in the human flesh to make us realize that human is really  created in His image and likeness  whom the Father love the most.

Jesus words and teaching in this gospel reading came out with all the authorities and powers that people have felt and recognized  in his presence. There is no way for anyone to do against his will.

As Jesus commanded the the evil spirit to come out from the man of their possession, there is no way for them to disobey him. This shown us that there is no single power on earth who could do against Jesus.

A true Christian community is a community of all freedom from the dominion of the  evil spirit. And that the  presence of evil to torment anyone of our brethren could not be taken as a way of life but an issue to be resolved with due diligence  and vigilance by assuming as army of God.

We should not be contented of being just unaffected but need  to do one share for the promotion of the kingdom of God.

Remember brethren, if God is with us   then  who can be against us!

Luke 4: 16-30 God’s Work on Us is Dependent on the Quality of Faith

Luke 4:16-30 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION. (August 31 2020)

When Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, as he usually did. He stood up to read, and they handed him the book of the prophet Isaiah. Jesus when unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written “The spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has annointed me, to bring good news to the poor; to proclaim liberty to captives; and new sight to the blind; to free the oppressed; and announce the Lord’s year of mercy.” Jesus then rolled up the scroll, give it to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he said to them. ” Today, this prophetic words come true. Even as you listen.” All agreed with him, and were lost in wonder, while he spoke of the grace of God.

Nevertheless they ask, “Who is this but Joseph’s son?” So he said, “Doubtless you will quote me the saying : Doctor, heal yourself! Do here, in your town, what they say you did in Capernaum.” Jesus added, ” No prophet is honored in his own country.

Truly, I say to you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens withheld rain for three years and six months and a great famine came over the whole land. Yet, Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow of Zarephath, in the country of Sidon. There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha, the prophet; and no one was healed except Naaman. the Syrian.”

On hearing this words, the whole assembly became indignant. They rose up and brought him out of the town, to the edge of the hill on which Nazareth is built, intending to throw him down the cliff. But he passed through their midst and went away.

POINT OF REFLECTION

Before coming to his home land, Nazareth, Jesus did his preaching and shown miracles to the people off of his country men. What was done by him was not kept in secret instead, the news spread across all countries so that Jesus was almost known by everyone.

His popularity was more than that of the many prophets who heals ahead of him. So that when it is time for him to be back to Nazareth many were curious about listening to him while doing his teaching in front of them and expected him to show up miracles like what they had heard from the miracles he did in the other lands. Upon reading what was written on the unrolled scroll, all acknowledge about the greatness of the good news and wonder about the quality of their faith.

But one had questioned Jesus in his person as being the Son of Joseph, the carpenter. This created on them some doubts which in turns became a blockage of fixing their eyes unto Jesus as the son of Joseph, the carpenter, rather than being the son of God.

Let us remember that the people of Nazareth was seen in two social personalities. The group of the recognized one, the good and the group of the unrecognized one, the bad.

Unfortunately, Jesus was seen to them as bad by looking at the social classification of his parents who heals from the poor family. Jesus gave to them the saying of the “Doctor heals yourself!” Highlighting the fact that the possibility of doing the same miracles heard off lands would be  remote.

But their mind were made dull so that their understanding were irrelevant looking Jesus as an ordinary person having the privilege of a prophet of the prior days. So, they decided to throw him down the cliff but Jesus passed on their midst unnoticed and unharmed.

Truly, it is very hard to the one like him to speak out the defects of the community most specially those who belong to the lower class, like Jesus in those time, because of their pre-processed beliefs.

In essence, the real roadblock to our journey of quality faith is our irrelevant pre-processed beliefs that was just accepted from our ancestors through out generations without the merit of assessment. What is more painful is hearing someone from the folk the limitation and defects of the group boldly presented on their face. As if giving them an insult.

Brothers and sisters, social classification do not have any impact unto Jesus. What matters most  is the profile level of one’s faith illustrated by the package of spiritual person. Being poor, is not about the material possessions but about the quality of faith we might have unto Jesus. It is this faith that would make Jesus perform the miracles in his home land.

In general, all of us would love to experience Jesus miracles in our lives. But are we investing so much in growing our  faith and in work to become worthy of these requested miracles from Jesus? A worthy faith is all needed for Jesus to perform miracles in our lives.

Matthew 16: 13-20 “Jesus Is The Perfect Model Of A Perfect Life”

Matthew 16: 13-20 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION (August 23, 2020)

After that, Jesus came to Caesarea Philippi. He asked his disciples, “ Who do people  say the Son of Man  is? “

They said, “For some of them, you are John the Baptist; for others Elijah, or Jeremiah or one of the Prophets.”

Jesus asked them, “But you, who do you say I am?”

Peter answered you are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus replied, “It is well for you, Simon Barjona, for it is not flesh or blood that has revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And no I say to you:  You are Peter; and on this Rock I will build my church; and never will the powers of death overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you unbind on earth shall be unbound in heaven. “Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

POINTS OF REFLECTION

Many of us, if not all, wanted to have a perfect life. That is why many end up idolizing someone whom he/she admires even if they do not really know them personally.  In other words, in the efforts of perfecting life, no one could avoid picking up a life’s model. A model that would suffice the kind of character and personality that is appreciable. And tell you, only few would normally choose Jesus as their model because they do not really know Him personally.

A perfect life is possible with a perfect model.  A model that is carefully chosen borne out of personal knowledge, personal encounter and deeper long lasting relationship. When Jesus asked Peter “Who do people say the Son of Man is? “  This was not a message of sourcing out information like ordinary research do, but to tell us that only few have knowledge about the Son of Man duly represented by Peter in the given scenario.

Let it be known that God is our creator and that the Holy Bible is the manual of life whom God has created. Should anyone want to make use of his life and unleash its full potential? Then better for him to carefully read and understand the instructional usage of life contained in the Holy Bible. There, he would understand that the perfect model of a perfect life is none other than Jesus himself.

Noticed that only Peter had claimed for the first time to know Jesus. No doubt for he is always in the company of Jesus allowing him to have a closer and deeper relationship with Jesus with the blessing of the Father, who is in heaven. It was when Jesus had expressed his full trust to Peter evidently as he said “You are Peter; and on this Rock I will build my church; and never will the powers of death overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you unbind on earth shall be unbound in heaven.”

Jesus blessed Peter with all the knowledge and understanding about heaven trusting him the power to pre-qualify man’s soul and the keeper of the keys in the kingdom of heaven. The quality of this trust unto Peter was very   high considering Peter is one of our kind and given the authority to bind and unbind  what could be bound and unbound in heaven.

Finally brothers and sisters in Christ, a perfect life can be possible with the perfect model. The manual of life (The Holy Bible) revealed that Jesus is the perfect model of a perfect life.
