MATTHEW 8: 28-34 GOSPEL READING AND REFLECTION ( JULY 1, 2020)

When Jesus reached Gadara, on the other side, he was met by two men, possessed by devils, who came out from the tombs. They were so fierce that no one dared to pass that way. They cried out, ” Son of God, leave us alone! Have you come here to torment us before the time?”
Some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding. So the demons begged him, ” If you drive us out, send us into that herd of pigs.”
Jesus ordered them, ” Go!” So the demons left the men and went into the pigs. The whole herd rushed down the cliff into the lake and was drowned. The men in charge of the pigs ran off to the town, where they told the whole story; and also what had happened to the men possessed with the demons. The whole town went out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.

POINT OF REFLECTION

Life in a greater perspective is a battle between two forces, evil and good. It is also a two way direction, going to hell or going to heaven. It is also a two option relationship which leaves no option in between but God or Satan.

In this Bible reading, the Gadara region was infected with evil spirit possessing two of their men living in a tomb. Though the community folks stayed untouched and in peace by avoiding the evil’s place, their being unaffected by the evil’s presence and showing no concern about the torment of the possessed does not make them any good to the Lord. Worst the herd of evil may even possessed the whole community without Jesus with them in a couple of days. But look! what they had done, after knowing what Jesus had done to the demons? They begged him not to stay on their region.

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, life could never be in between. While we have still enough time to do so, make sure to pick the right choice with the Father in heaven. Do it now and acclaim oneself to Him  alone who is mighty and savior for tomorrow might be late for you. To God be the glory.
