Should there be Teaching Ethics?
Good day to the members of this forum. I am James, curently a BSE student. And I was thinking, why there is no subject as Teaching Ethics? I know there is Seminary Education, but it does not cover how a teacher should behave as a professional. My parents both took Engineering courses and they had an Ethics subject. My mother works in purchasing and they have Purchasing Ethics, so why not Teaching Ethics? Ethics is the study of morality's effect on conduct or the study of moral standards and how they affect conduct. As teachers, we have great influence on students, so we should have high moral standards.

I was thinking this would cover the following issues:

1- As much as possible, a teacher should not have their children in their classes or even family members.

2- Teachers should not tutor their own students because there might be a conflict of interest.

3- Teachers should not accept gifts of value like expensive pens, clothes, perfumes, etc. Unless these are promotional items and given for specific reasons like Christmas and birthdays.

4- Teacher should not have personal(girlfriend/boyfriend) relationships with their students.

5- A teacher should not humiliate a student in front of the class but instead encourage them.

6- Problems of students should be kept confidential.

7- Teachers should not use school facilities or equipments for personal use or intent.

These are just a few things that I suggest to be tackled by a Teaching Ethics subject...

Do you agree that there should be a Teaching Ethics subject?

RE: Should there be Teaching Ethics?
hello there jmonte, I am Bob Dalida from Manila. I like what said about the teacher's teaching ethics. In addition that I believe that teachers should keep their promises during the start of the semester. I'm referring to Syllabi, assignments, grading principles, and class and office hour schedules involve that they promised to the students. Teacher must also be fair. They should recognize the inherent subjectivity involved in grading. Teachers must to ensure that their grading practices are as objective as possible by creating and adhering to unambiguous criteria. Most importantly, Teachers should encourage mutual respect among students. Additionally, teachers must show respect and common courtesy for students both during interpersonal interactions and in responding promptly to students' need for guidance and feedback. what do you think?

Hi. I am Czai. Ethics like a gyroscope, is a mechanism that must be use consciously and continuously to maintain direction, stability and equilibrium. As a teacher it is vital to renew emphasis on teaching for character development. Schools face an important challenge, doing their part in preparing children and youth to be responsible, productive adults. Educators differ on how they should teach character development. Teachers have a great role in every students because a good teacher is more than a lecturer.Effective teachers make purpose and content explicit, plan carefully, use systematic assessment and feedback, make connections, encourage students to think about thinking and model what they want the students to do, in addition to giving clear instructions.
