R.A. 9293
Admin please help me elaborate or explain better this law. Does it mean a License Teacher who has not work as a teacher in high school either either in private or public? how about a student who graduaded 5 or 6 years ago or a student whose
earned 30 Units but has not taken LET ? is that person covered by.R.A. 9293? Or only those teachers with license already but did not teach for 5 years?
Please help me with this po Kasi pagka intindi ko po kasi ay those teachers with license lang po na for more than 5 years na na hindi nagtuturo at di na kasama ang mga nag graduate ng more the 5 years but just recently passed the LET.
Kasi po amg SDS namin nag insist po siya na both are covered ng R.A 9293.
Hope to hear an amswer specially on going na po ang ranking samin.

Thank you po.

Hello arleen1973!

RA 9293 or An Act Amending Certain Sections of Republic Act Numbered Seventy -Eight Hundred and Thirty-six (RA 7836), Otherwise known as the Philippines Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994, Section 26 par. (b) states:

“Professional teachers who have not practiced their profession for the past five (5) years shall take at least twelve (12) units of educational courses consisting of at least six (6) units of pedagogy and six (6) units of context courses or the equivalent raining and number of hours to be chosen from list of courses to be provided by the Board and the Department of Education, before they can be allowed to practice their profession in the country.”

I have discussed this with the Legal Department of Professional Regulation Commission as I too have the same concern. According to the personnel and to the reply letter I have received from them, once you pass the LET, you are only a LET passer but a QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL TEACHER on the day once a passer registered for his/her license at the Commission.

In my case I passed the LET year 2008 and registered for my license year 2010. I would soon have my item this year....Hence, since you just passed the LET recently you are still qualified to apply/to have an item in public school as long as you have already registered as a professional.

Those only who have not practiced their profession for more than 5 years as a professional teacher in schools' recognized by DepEd who will be disqualified.

Another thing is, but if you have your masters degree within the five years of not practicing your profession as a professional teacher, that would still qualify you to apply/get an item in DepEd.

I suggest you write a letter to the PRC, to their Admin Department regarding your concern. The letter from the PRC would be a great proof.

Good luck! Smile

RE: R.A. 9293
Feliz_amar,

I have read your case in the forum and I'm glad you answered my question because we are of the same case. When I read in my book Its very clear in that a professional teacher who have not practiced their profession for the past 5 years shall take at least 12 Units. In my case I earned my 30 Units year 2004 but I have worked in private school as a staff and last March 2013 I passed the LET. So the way I understand it is that I only became Professional Teacher last 2013 and my License is counted one year presently. But I could not understand why our ADS everyrime somebody is asking case like this she would always answer u need to take 12 Units of
masteral without first evaluating the case parang pakiramdam ko nilalahat nila or parang generalize ang sagot nila. But like what you have done I will be going to PRC to verify hope they can help me with this. One way to know also if you lack 12 units is that they will put the applicants in Category C and if id see my rank in that Category mI think I need to ask if it was because of thr 12 Units if in case I got a good ratings in my demo and interview. (Sigh) Anyway thanks for sharing your case here. And goodluck our ranking results will be posted this coming april 19 sigur to. I'm praying that I will get the item this June God willing.
