Montessori, unfortunately, is not patented. Any school can attach it to their name and you are correct, a buzzword indeed. Montessori founded an organization to preserve the integrity of her method, the Association Montessori Internationale(AMI). Montessori schools with AMI or AMS(American Montessori Society) training, have 3 year span mixed age classes, Ratio 1 guide and 1 assistant : 25 - 30 children - no subject teachers, freedom and responsibility is observed in the prepared environment(classroom), no rewards and punishment - only natural or logical consequence, no uniform.
