Question How much is the basic salary of a new teacher?
My co-teacher here in an online academy is planning to teach in a public school. They are asking me if the basic salary of a new teaher in a public school is more or less than 12k.
Huh I don't have an idea as well.
Please help. Thank you!

Basic salary of Teacher I in the public school is supposed to be SG 11, Step 1, which would translate to P18,549 per month. See http://eduphil.org/forum/9-000-peso-mont...ml#pid7314

It seems to me that DepEd regulations do not distinguish between elementary and high school teachers.

Yup, public school teachers are not categorized in such a way when it comes to compensation. Supposedly, the minimum salary for a public school teacher is Php 18k, gross. BUT, if the school is under the Local Government Unit, meaning it is a new school built by the city/town/province itself, the pay is dependent on the budget of the Local Government. It could be higher or, more often than not, lower.

Ah yes, I forgot to add that. The figures cited above refer to national line items; new schools and even old schools with too many students usually hire 'MOA teachers' - the MOA refers to the Memorandum of Agreement between the LGU and DepEd in which the LGU promises that they will provide the salary for the teachers. These salaries are way below the national standards, because LGUs usually do not have enough money for this.

Thank you for your those informations.
This is my first time I heard about "MOA teachers". I think it is not really good if you are under it.

Public school teachers are government employees, so they are also required to register with GSIS.

New teachers may not start at an average teacher salary. Depend on the school trusty or principal they decide where to teach and how much they should earn. Some school districts offer high teacher salaries and great benefits, while others do not. Before accepting a position, teachers should research the salaries from district to district in their areas.
