Is it okay not to return student papers?
Good day!
I'm sorry if I put my query here. I don't know where to go. My apologies.

Is it alright for a school not to give back the periodical tests of their students?

I asked the principal and she vaguely replied that "these are the school's property."

Thanks.

I dunno what type of school you got there. Is it tertiary? secondary private? elementary private sectarian? public?

In my case before (private sectarian HS), the periodical tests papers were not returned to us but shown in our class. The common errors were also discussed. The reasons are clearly stipulated in the Student Handbook plus they wanted the papers for accreditation purposes. Besides, the teachers can be consulted at any available time.

So my point is, it does not matter if the papers were returned or not. What matters most is the communication between the parents and the school through their children and teachers in relation to the progress of the children.

My another point is, you can actually solve your real problem through other civile and rational means.

So it's a YES for me.

NO if otherwise; meaning
a) when the school's action is not in any guideline/policy/handbook;
b) when accreditation is not in their dictionary;
c) when they just avoid / conceal their bias in rating (plus mistakes as well as poorly crafted questions);
d) when teachers do not allow consultation;
e) when you really want to intervene in your child's learning progress
f) etc.

Just my 5-centavo thoughts.=))

My recommendation, ask your principal these three questions:
1. Why?
2. Why?
3. Why?

Do it nicely of course. Basin pud isog ka. jejeje

I strongly belive that the wriitten papers are given students to only for check out. So they can find your mistakes and later they do not done that misteakes againly.They not need to keep the papers with them and I think students papers are the school's property so it is not okay to return student papers.

When comes to see the both Side both are been somewhat right at their topic.When its comes to student its there right to share their papers and find the mistakes so they can do it right another time while when comes to see school they have the policies for not giving the papers.

No it is not okey to return student papers, because students can not know about their mistakes. And they believe that they have written all things corrected. So I suggest you to return papers to the students.

but you should discuss the flaws of students paper in the class and tell them there mistakes...not one by one but generally....then there is no need to return the paper.

I agree with Mr. Edukador. It is alright not to return periodical test papers to the students as long as these have been shown and students' mistakes were discussed in the class.
