Drug education in the Philippines
Drug education has become part of the Philippine curriculum since the late 80s. The Philippine government at that time recognized the need to educate the youth about the ill effects of using drugs.

The National Drug Education Program of DepEd aims to prevent drub abuse among students through the development of desirable values, attitudes and practices.

The basis of drug education in the Philippines is Sec. 29, Art. V of P.D. No. 44 ("Drug Education in the Curriculum in All Levels of Education"), which was subsequently supported by then Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports Memorandum No. 192, s. 1980, "Teaching Materials for Drug Education".

Attached is the memorandum from MECS.

RE: Drug education in the Philippines
In case y'all didn't know, many of the extreme crimes (murder, rape, etc) committed in the Philippines are due to criminals either robbing ppl so they can buy drugs or are stoned and commit the crime.

A friend's family recently got broken in to in Cavite. His wife was killed and 12 year old daughter raped and stabbed. He was abroad earning money for them - thanks to the economy in the Philippines.

If there was one thing I liked about Marcos, he came down hard on pushers. They faced a firing squad. Aquino needs to have the balls to do the same.

You educators need to do a good job educating the kids on the effects of drugs on them, society and the country.

Apparently, the curriculum does not include teaching what the penalties are especially when caught in other countries - like death!!!

@tobybul: Even future lawyers are not taught the penalties of crimes in other countries.

RE: Drug education in the Philippines
No problem.... those that violate them will just have to find out the hard way then.... surprise, surprise!!!.....

..... ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Nor does burying your head in the sand.....
