RE: Do teachers still need to write lesson plans?
What I like about writing LP's is that it forces you to think of what you're going to do the whole week. Of course, it is very easy to just recall your old strategies and employ them yet again for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th straight year, but creating LP's helps force myself to think of new ways to carry out my lesson. In this way, I get rid of the predictability factor of being an old school teacher. Besides, each batch of students is unique in nature, and perhaps last year's strategies are not applicable to this year's. Smile

Also, when I submit LP's to our coordinators, they are able to give other ideas on how to carry out an activity, which of course, I am always free not to follow. Hehe. But their ideas really help. It triggers more ideas. Smile

It is said that the most unpardonable fault of a teacher is coming to class without a lesson plan. Just like an architect and an engineer, the teacher also needs blueprint of what he/she intends to build-whether this be knowledge and information, skills, desirable habits and attitudes.

Before, I considered lesson plans as 'lason' plans because of the 'effort' and time spent on coming up with interactive learning activities, however, i learned its importance when i had my pt...it was really a big help...yes, my handwriting was improved, together with my organizational and planning skills...

Definitely, the teacher must have some idea of what should transpire in his class. However, the objection is to the kind of detailed lesson planning required in the public schools and in most private schools.

Without any plan there is no destination. But, it doesn't mean you are going to note each stop.

LP's are okay, so long as it's not "UBER detailed" >_>

if lesson guides are available, we need not right LP's, lesson guides are much more detailed than LP, besides, its not often followed. It is just very important if there are observations.

I'm a student of Bachelor of Secondary Education, and as a future educator, I think that a lesson plan is still a must. It is simply because it serves as a guide for teachers. I can say that it really helped me when I did my demo teaching. Mastery of the subject matter is not enough for teachers, we must also assure our students that what we are discussing is relevant to the topic, because sometimes we can't avoid some scenarios wherein we mislead our students by not having a plan. Writing lesson plans won't take too much of your time, rather it will help you to be more organized when it comes to teaching.

Certainly written lesson plans are needed.

Lesson plans are immensely needed in preparing for the class.
It serves as the basis of every lesson or discussion in the class. It contains the objectives of the lesson proper that can surely help the teachers to measure the students aptitude regarding the subject matter.

I agree with you miss hazelle that lesson plan is still needed. Lesson plan serves as a guide in teaching especially to the beginners in the field of noble profession. As we all know making lesson plan is not easy because it is time consuming but as a teacher it is the key to teach well in front of different character of learners.
