can a single mother continue her service as a public school teacher
I'm very curious right now, coz I am pregnant for 2 months now and my bf can't marry me because he is a seaman and he can't have his vacation until October, by then my baby will be 6 months and so it will be very obvious..Will I be fired out from the service? I am a public school teacher here in Cebu.. Please enlighten me..

Anybody who has an idea? About a year ago, there was a "hearsay" that it's ok for the public school teachers to have a baby without a husband, was that true? I hope so, coz I am really really bothered by this problem..

I've also heard about these things, although I am not sure about the legal bases. Can you talk with those who have some idea about this and ask for the legal bases? At least the DepEd memo number? At least we will be able to really see what the rules say.

Thanks for the reply Islesv.. I appreciate it very much.. As of now, I don't know where to run, to ask for an advice. I am afraid If I will ask somebody in our school or a person in authority, I might give them an idea that I am the one who is in trouble..Haaay:-( Don't know

The administrative complaint seems to be through 'disgraceful and immoral conduct' and it seems that some DepEd divisions consider having a child out of wedlock to fall under this phrase. OTH, I personally know of someone from Lapulapu City Division who had a child out of wedlock but who was not castigated for it. It seems it really depends on the action taken by immediate superiors.

If you want, I think I can help you get in touch with the Teachers' Dignity Coalition of Cebu province. They might be of some assistance.

Teaching is regarded as the most dignified profession around. So being pregnant out of wedlock is not just disgraceful but I'll say it's eroding the dignity being rendered to teachers... so i'll side with the government with regards to this issue.

In one case which reached the Supreme Court regarding the cohabitation of a married clerk of court with a married man (although at the time the case was filed, the husband of the clerk of court was already dead), the Supreme Court excused the 'immorality' of the woman based on religious grounds (apparently, such arrangements are sanctioned by their church). As we say in law school, 'the immorality, if it does exist, does not have anything to do with her job'. I think the same thing can be said of Girlie's case. I understand the concern of those who would view having a child out of wedlock immoral, and wanting teachers to have a very high moral sense (which most do, actually), but... let the one who has no sin cast the first stone.

Someday we're going to remove this hypocritical requirements for our teachers from the law books.

What I remember from my class before, for as long as nobody files against that teacher, okay lang daw yun. but with the crab mentality we are practicing, that will surely make a big issue!
