annoyed with the different curriculum models
hi everyone,

i have a problem. ever since i started studying education, i've heard of all these different curriculum models that deped has implemented. there's the 2002 BEC, 2003 RBEC, PSSLC, now the this UbD.

I'm okay with all these developments since i understand the curriculum should be dynamic. it should change to meet the demands of the society.

the problem i have with this is drawing the lines between the implementation of all these models. from what i've read so far, BEC was supposed to be implemented between 2002-2003 and then was changed to RBEC in 2003, but in most of the websites i visited they use the terms interchangeably. i can't even get a copy of the RBEC so i can compare it with BEC and see the difference. then there's this RSEC and SEC and UbD. it's all so confusing.

another problem i have is in the actual implementation. during my observations in different schools, i found out that most schools still stick to the BEC model (it's like RBEC was swept under the rug, and so were the others). at least that what they say when asked. a few teachers here and there say they follow the UbD model.

can someone please clearly draw the line between all these? and what are the implementing dates for these different models?

sincerely,
confused-with-curriculum

For now.... all your confusions will disappear because of the advent of K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum. So, no more BEC, RBEC or whatever. It is now K to 12.... Smile

I disagree. Even the new K-12 BEC is a total mess and a big confusion to educators. I understand that this is the pioneering school year for this big leap in the education landscape of the Philippines but the implementation is not that really strong! They said it is modular approach but where are the modules?... and the grading system for 1st and 7th graders? They've made it more complicated! They have given the guidelines for the assessment but it is not detailed... On the other hand, the DepEd has given all the learning, teaching, and session guides that are really helpful for teachers. Indeed, curriculum is dynamic but how dynamic is dynamic? What is the essence of changing the curriculum? for development? for the students and teachers and other stakeholders be confused?

@Konsainiko: You question .... " Can someone please clearly draw the line between all these? and what are the implementing dates for these different models? " Ans: For now.... all your confusions will disappear because of the advent of K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum. So, no more BEC, RBEC or whatever. It is now K to 12.... and by the way, forget about those implementing dates for they are no longer relevant. Smile

@Prince: We can't have a perfect curriculum in just a twinkle of an eye.... the best thing that we can do as of this moment with regards to the implementation of "K to 12 BEC " are the ff:

1]Attend trainings, seminars, orientations and workshops in line with this new curriculum " K to 12 BEC " so that we can truly appreciate its essence and beauty.

2]Internalize, conceptualize and reflect the significance, welfare and impact of this new curriculum to the current situation and condition in our school community.

3]Learn to accept the fact that no system is perfect esp. during its primary years of implementation.

4]Ask yourself.... What can you do or what can you share in order to improve the implementation of this new curriculum, "K TO 12 BEC".

5]Let us always think about this whenever changes come to our lives....... "Great minds always make things so SIMPLE while the fools always make things complicated." Big Grin
